Identity and self-awareness skills help students who are blind or visually impaired develop a positive understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their personal values. Instruction focuses on recognizing and managing emotions, understanding strengths and challenges, developing self-confidence, and increasing awareness of how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence interactions with others. Students also learn to navigate social and digital environments responsibly while building the self-awareness needed for healthy relationships, effective decision-making, and independence. Strong identity and self-awareness skills support emotional well-being, social success, and lifelong self-determination.
