Recreation

Recreation provides students who are blind or visually impaired with opportunities to develop physical fitness, coordination, confidence, and lifelong leisure interests. Because many recreational activities rely on visual instruction and environmental awareness, students may benefit from direct instruction in activity rules, movement skills, navigation, and the use of adapted equipment. Instruction focuses on helping students participate safely and independently in a variety of individual and group activities. Engagement in recreation supports physical health, social interaction, emotional well-being, and meaningful participation in school and community life.
