Why Teach Work Behaviors

Developing positive work behaviors helps students build the skills necessary to manage responsibilities, collaborate with others, and complete tasks effectively. These behaviors form the foundation for independence and long-term success.
  • Preparation for Independence. Good work behaviors such as punctuality, dependability, organization, and task completion help students develop independence and self-confidence. Instructional Strategies for Teaching Work Behaviors

Teachers of the visually impaired can support the development of positive work behaviors through direct instruction and ongoing guidance.
  • Discuss expectations for schoolwork, group activities, and classroom participation
  • Model respectful communication and professional behavior
  • Provide opportunities for students to practice organization and time management
  • Encourage students to reflect on their performance and set personal goals
  • Teach strategies for requesting help and advocating for accommodations
