Qualifications
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities for these positions include:
Eligible for certification in Visually Impaired and/or Orientation & Mobility per the Florida Department of Education.
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills in English. Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or other languages is desired, but not required.
- Familiar with instructional practices that enhance student engagement.
- Ability to work well with general education teachers and related service providers.
- Flexible and adaptable as an itinerant teacher.
- UEB proficiency
Eligible for certification in Visually Impaired and/or Orientation & Mobility per the Florida Department of Education.
- Previous teaching experience is desired, but not required. Mentoring is available for new teachers through the Employee Support Program (ESP).
- 196 day school calendar, 7.5 hours per day, 6 paid holidays
- Background clearance and drug screening clearance are required.
Job Responsibilities
The available positions are responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program for visually impaired students. This position is expected to travel to a variety of schools to provide direct and/or indirect special instruction services related to visual impairments. This position is part of the ESE Special Program team and reports to the Manager of ESE Special Programs. The primary responsibilities of these positions include assessing, progress monitoring, developing and implementing instruction to meet the unique needs of students with visual impairments as indicated on the IEPs as guided by data collected in the 9 areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) for students who are blind or visually impaired: assistive technology, career exploration and skills, compensatory skills, recreation and leisure, orientation and mobility, sensory efficiency, social skills, self determination, and independent living skills.
