Federal Guidelinesby Carmen Willings
Revised February 24, 2022 People who are blind or have low vision are a very diverse group. Vision professionals must be prepared to meet the needs of all the individuals on their caseloads, determine eligibility, understand medical implications of visual impairments, perform evaluations and provide resources to families and teams. This can be a challenge as caseloads change from year to year as do the needs of the individuals they serve. It can be difficult to recall a wide range of information as well as locate resources and products for students. It is my hope that the information contained within this section will help you in your profession. Free Matter for the Blind. If the student is legally blind, remember that he is entitled to send and receive certain materials through the US Postal Service for free. Materials such as textbooks, educational materials, Braille letters, and books on tape from The Library for the Blind may be mailed without postage. The package/envelope must have the words "free matter for the blind" stamped or handwritten on them. It is important to remember that these materials must be for the use of someone who is legally blind so be cautious.
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." |
