The following is a list of resources that sell or loan braille books.
Instructional Material Centers: Contact your state's instructional material center for obtaining braille books and materials. Inquire about transcribing books and availability of braille reading series.
American Printing House for the Blind (APH):APH maintains a central catalog of braille books. Order books in advance through APH, especially if the student is eligible for APH materials.
Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS): Offers braille books on loan through regional Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Directory available online.
Great Expectations: Multi-sensory approach to popular picture books for children with visual impairments. Provides active reading experiences through songs, tactile play, picture descriptions, and more.
Imagination Library: Partnership between APH and Dolly Parton's Dollywood Foundation to provide print/braille and audio books to children who are blind and visually impaired.
These resources offer a range of materials, tools, and programs to support braille instruction and literacy development for students who are blind or have low vision.
Remember to store braille books in bookshelves sitting on their end. Do not stack them on top of each other or it will flatten the braille!
